Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Virginia@Vasse Felix: Made every year since 1972. Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon is an archetypal expression, possessing all the hallmarks of the finest Margaret River Cabernet; elegance, power and ageability. 18 months on French Oak, 34% new, 66% 1-5 year old.
Tasting Notes
Floral notes of everlastings and potpourri emerge, alongside subtle accents of liquorice, star anise, and charcoal. A touch of saddle leather, wax, vanilla, and cedar adds depth to this captivating aroma.
A fresh and delicate entry leads to a fleshy core, elevated by buoyant acidity. Medium-bodied with a lovely mouth- filling tension, it unfolds with vibrant complexity build towards a long finish.
Plaudits
On the one hand this seems approachable and complete, so it’s drinking superbly. A classically elegant and exquisitely presented cabernet from a vintage that combined fruit intensity and stylishness. James Halliday 95 Points.
The aroma has a distinctive lift of blackcurrant and slightly savoury olive tapenade with a deep dark chocolate character. It’s finely balanced with fine-grained oak and firm fine tannins. Ray Jordan. 96 Points
Sully Says
Sully Says
2022 was an exceptional year for Cabernet in Margaret River and Vasse Felix is in the heart of the Wilyabrup regional and, with the wit and verve of Virgina Willcock at the helm, they should be able to knock it out of the park.

About Winery
About Winery
Vasse Felix is one of the big Margaret River three (Leeuwin and Voyager the others). It is officially known as the first commercial winery in Margaret River so the winery will always be an integral fabric of the region. They have a broad price range here – from the classic red at $15, to the Tom Cullity at around $200. The restaurant, in culinary experience and setting, is exquisite, and lauded winemaker Virginia Willcock has just been voted winemaker of the year – 2026 Halliday. (Head viticulturalist Bart Malony was voted best viticulturalist by James Halliday in 2024 so must know what he’s doing too.)
James Halliday:
Vasse Felix is Margaret River’s founding wine estate, established by regional pioneer Dr Tom Cullity. Chief winemaker Virginia Willcock has energised the winemaking and viticultural team with her no-nonsense approach and fierce commitment to quality.
