Swinney Syrah 2024
Swinney Syrah 2024
Rob@Swinney: The fruit was from dry-grown, vertically-trellised Syrah with small parcels of fruit hand-picked from specific sites on our Swinney Wilson’s Pool & Powderbark vineyards. The use of shadecloth helped build layers and structural complexity in the finished wine. 11 months on French Oak (7% new).
Tasting Notes
Deep vibrant purple Vibrant and perfumed with salted liquorice, black pepper and nori Medium to full bodied with distinctive fennel seed and schezuan pepper complimenting the mulberry and blueberry fruit. Satisfying long with a coolness to the palate and fine structured tannins
Plaudits
A bit of ginger biscuit, some cinnamon bark notes, a curious quinine element, too; pleasingly bitter and spicy, again. Tannins find an emery board texture, a good chomp and chew, and stretch the wine long. This feels very 'syrah' all up. It's beautifully composed, albeit a touch on edge in youth, but it will settle wonderfully. 95 Points. James Halliday.

About Winery
Rob Mann, head winemaker at Swinney, is descended from an Australian winemaking family stretching back six generations, and has lent his hand to some of Australia’s most renown labels. His vision at Swinney is simple: use exceptional fruit to make exceptional wine, comparable to the country’s greatest.
James Halliday.
The Swinney family (currently parents Graham and Kaye, and son and daughter Matt and Janelle) has resided on their 2500ha property since 1922. In the ’90s they decided to diversify and now have 160ha of vines across 4 vineyards, including the Powderbark Ridge vineyard in Frankland River.
