Mike@Pierro: In 1979 I produced Australia’s first Semillon Sauvignon Blanc. It went on to win a trophy at the Perth Royal Show. In 1980 I was so convinced of the blend’s potential in Margaret River he devoted a third of the Pierro plantings to the varieties.
Tasting Notes
Flavours of citrus, pear, green apple, melon and tropical fruit. Fresh, crisp and dry with both complexity and elegance. An ideal accompaniment to seafood and white meat dishes.
Plaudits
There’s a lot of energy and drive to this blend – it works so well. Enticing with its lemon-lime flavours, lemon zest and freshly sliced ginger/galangal. Some texture across the otherwise linear palate, electrifying acidity seals the deal. 95 Points. Halliday Wine Companion.

Dr Michael Peterkin is another of the legion of Margaret River medical practitioner-vignerons; for good measure, he married into the Cullen family. Pierro is renowned for its stylish white wines, which often exhibit tremendous complexity; the chardonnay can be monumental in its weight and texture. That said, its red wines from good vintages can be every bit as good.
