Mr Barval Chardonnay 2024
Mr Barval Chardonnay 2024
Rob@Mr Barval: This wine is a wonderful expression of the near perfect 2023 growing season. Great complexity and length yet precise and elegant t its core. This wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered and a harmelss sediment may remain. 100% completion of Malo and 10 months on Oak.
Tasting Notes
Three diverse and select parcels of Gin Gin clone Chardonnay combined to produce this wine. Bouquet: Subtle Savoury Aromas, Crème Caramel, Light Spice Palate: Apple, Pear, White Stone Fruit
Plaudits
There seems to be lighter touch to the Mr Barval wines, still flavoursome, but not so oaky, not so voluptuous – this ’23 a case in point. The palate is finely tuned, a little flinty, with citrus and stone fruit. If anything, this is shy from youth and will garner more complexity in time. James Halliday 93 Ponts

About Winery
One of my favourites. In Margaret River’s south along Caves Road, not far from the towering Karri Forrest, and only kilometres to the sparkling ocean at Redgate Beach.
Rob Gerahadi honed his skills in Italy and has taken all his knowledge, condensed it into some finely tuned skill, and spun out some small quantity, high quality wine that you will want to get your hands on.
The philosophy here is a little different. It’s not so much about the single-vineyard of the site but accessing the quality fruit (so the chardonnay is from the Karridale region and the cabernet is from the WIlyabrup). You are essentially getting the best fruit to make the best wine from the best wine maker.
Everything about Mr Barval is quality. Their wines are made in small volumes and often sell out. It’s not wine you will see in many (or any) bottle shops.
