Tasting Notes
Voluptuous and expressive, this wine shows fresh almond pastry, pink grapefruit zest, and roasted hazelnut aromatics. Wild fermentation with full solids adds a flinty complexity and the extended time on fine lees contributes a delicious savoury character to the palate, which is powerful yet defined by a fine frame of natural acidity.
Plaudits
From a site planted in '81 by legend David Hohnen. It’s up there as one of great chardonnays from Margaret River. It’s a wine of distinction, it’s classy and distinctive due to that steep site. Thoughtful winemaking brings out tantalising flavours of pink grapefruit, white nectarine, long palate and the mouth-watering natural acidity creates a long and pure finish. Just stunning. James Halliday 96 points.
It has intensity, lime rind, a salted cracker character, vibrating ‘mineral’ acidity, so much grip and flinty texture, and a finish of super length. If you love the modern Margaret River style, then this will absolutely hit the spot. 96 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front"

About Winery
About Winery
In the winemaking world, Mark Hohnen is royalty, and his stories are the stuff of legend, spoken in hushed tones. Did he really, for example, introduce the Gin Gin clone to Western Australian by smuggling it (in his socks) from a flight from California?
As the founding chairmen of Cape Mentelle and Cloudy Bay, Mark’s resume is impressive. Some could say that, along with Dennis Horgan, he has helped, more than most, to put Margaret River on the map.
At McHenry Hohnen, the winemaking baton has been passed onto the affable Japo, who hails from the North East Italy and certainly knows a thing or two about producing beautiful wine.
James Halliday.
The McHenry and Hohnen families have a long history of grape growing and winemaking in Margaret River. They joined forces in '04 to create McHenry Hohnen with the aim of producing wines honest to region, site and variety. Vines have been established on the McHenry, Calgardup Brook and Rocky Road properties, all farmed biodynamically.
