LS Merchants Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
LS Merchants Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
Dylan@LS Merchants: For this wine was grown in two different locations, the first is Treeton Estate, managed by LS, where our Cellar door is located. Gravel, loam soils over a clay base in the treeton subregion. The second is Jolliffe vineyard, the barrels that didn’t make the single vineyard wine were blent into this wine (they weren’t bad, just not the best of the best).
Tasting Notes
2023 was a warm, dry vintage. We picked slightly earlier than usual and the wines showed great concentration and colour. Due to the heat there is an increase in structure and tannins balanced by dark, concentrated forest fruits, hints of baking spice and a juicy, red fruit acidity.
Plaudits
Review of 2022: Fruit off the Treeton vineyard, where you’ll find LS Merchant’s cellar door, and the Jolliffe vineyard at Wilyabrup. Get cracking to take in the aromas of cassis and mulberries. Aussie-bush fragrance and warm, woodsy spices – no new oak in this wine so it’s unadulterated. Medium bodied, lovely fine, textural tannins and finishes convincingly. James Halliday. 95 Points.

About Winery
About Winery
Dylan Arvidson has quickly established a loyal following with LS Merchants. Something like a cult. Creative, young, new-world, informal, approachable, fun. It’s the stuff the cool kids drink but to call it hipster would be seriously under appreciating how good this wine is.
Rock up to LS Merchants and be charmed by the affable Bella (who knows a heck of a lot more about wine than she lets on) or the hilarious Declan, part raconteur, part madman, always entertaining. Later on, Dylan might even be spinning the decks on lawn outside.
James Halliday.
LS Merchants is focused on making wine from many different regions in Western Australia (Margaret River, their base, the Great Southern and Geographe). While Dylan Arvidson, head winemaker and owner, adheres to a minimalist winemaking approach he does not identify as a ‘natural winemaker’, rather allowing wild fermentation to occur where possible and pushing wine grapes and styles in many different directions. There is plenty of variety in the LS Merchants portfolio, but the wines are bound together by his clean, bright and expressive winemaking style.
