Guy@Lowboi: A small planting of Gruner Veltliner was established in 2017 on some older rootstock in Mount Barker.   The cool nights of Mount Barker and the long growing season seem to suit Gruner Veltliner, with it being the last white varietal to be picked, often falling into April.

Sully Says

From the left field. A variatal you don't see around the traps. No doubt with some creativity and flair from the dastardly wine folks at Loi Boi.

About Winery

To say the Lowboi website is minimalist is somewhat of an understatement.
They sell 3 types of wine (with very little descriptions or tasting notes) in the backdrop of a relatively obscure landscape painting, and solitary phone number.

Luckily, if you call the number, you will (hopefully) get a hold of Guy Lyons, who is also the head winemaker at the highly revered -and awarded – Forest Hill in the Great Southern. Lowboi is Guy’s side project, where he makes small-batch Riesling, Chardonnay, and Grüner Veltliner.

James Halliday.
In '17, winemaker Guy Lyons (Forest Hill) and his wife, Nicola, bought the Springviews vineyard on the south side of the dramatically beautiful Porongurup range in Great Southern. The soils are layered laterite gravels with loam and weathered granite. Planted on the south-facing slope are riesling and Gingin clone chardonnay. Their Gruner Veltliner comes from the Lyons family farm in Mount Barker. The ‘Lowboi’ name originates from the farm Guy's mother grew up on in the Great Southern shire of Tambellup.
