Liam@Forest Hill: The inaugural release of the Forest Hill Vineyard Cabernet Malbec. Our 2023 Cabernet Malbec represents the culmination of many years working with both varieties but also careful consideration of two parcels on our farm which together make an exceptional wine. Forest Hill Vineyard, Block 7 Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tasting Notes

Deep dark colour. The nose has a slightly turned earth and meaty aromas with bright red fruits.

Plaudits

This is 65% Block 7, which produced the prettiest fruit on the property. 35% old vine malbec. Dark fruits in the middle palate with tremendous depth are smooth and seamless. Chalky fine tannin builds to a long finish. Ray Jordan. 96 Points. This is delicious. It's sweet fruited but has this sense of herbal complexity and red earthy savouriness. The tannins are so very fine, elegant, sleek and keep the wine compact and refreshing. Beautifully, tightly wound, with supreme length and a sense of finesse. Glorious red wine. About Winery

Founded in 1965, which makes it the oldest in the Great Southern Region, this small, family-owned winery is ahead of its time in producing quality Pinot and Riesling. They make very small amounts of highly lauded wine here. (You won’t find many, or any, in bottle shops).

This family-owned business is one of the oldest ‘new’ winemaking operations in WA and was the site of the first grape plantings in Great Southern in '65. The Forest Hill brand became well known, aided by the fact that a ’75 Riesling made by Sandalford from Forest Hill grapes won 9 trophies. The quality of the wines made from the oldest vines (dry-grown) on the property is awesome.
