Forest Hill Block 5 Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
Forest Hill Block 5 Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
Liam@Forest Hill: The 2023 vintage is a fantastic year which is characterised by exceptional detail and perfume with fleshy fruit, lots of fine ripe tannin and length. Hand-picked from our oldest and most exceptional parcels of dry-grown cabernet, the Block 5 was fermented in small parcels including concrete tank and matured in French oak hogshead barrels.
Tasting Notes
Deep, ruby red hue and intense aromas of dark berries, cassis, and floral notes like violets and lavender, complemented by hints of clove, cinnamon spice, vanilla, cedar, and tobacco. The palate offers a long, deeply flavored experience with dark fruit flavors, fine and silky tannins.
Plaudits
There's a haunting beauty to this wine. Pure dark cherry, cassis with violet florals, clove, a bit of turned earth and tobacco here, too, quality, the length of the wine exceptional, persistent in faint grip, spice, earth and blue/black fruit characters. The compact nature of the wine coupled to its refreshment factor is just outstanding. Unreal. James Halliday 96 Points.
Awarded Best Cabernet for the Halliday Cabernet Challenge 2025.

About Winery
About Winery
Founded in 1965, which makes it the oldest in the Great Southern Region, this small, family-owned winery is ahead of its time in producing quality Pinot and Riesling. They make very small amounts of highly lauded wine here. (You won’t find many, or any, in bottle shops).
James Halliday.
This family-owned business is one of the oldest ‘new’ winemaking operations in WA and was the site of the first grape plantings in Great Southern in '65. The Forest Hill brand became well known, aided by the fact that a ’75 Riesling made by Sandalford from Forest Hill grapes won 9 trophies. The quality of the wines made from the oldest vines (dry-grown) on the property is awesome.
