Rob@Castle Rock: A classic cool climate style Shiraz, elegant and spiced. Fruit sourced from Kalgan, Albany. Machine harvested. Crushed and destemmed to stainless steel for fermentation. 3 weeks on skins before being pressed. Racked to a mix of French oak Puncheons and barriques (21% new). 12 months barrel maturation.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby. Cracked pepper, black olives and bay leaves fill the nose. The palate is plush and supple, dark fruits holding the spice and oak in check. There’s an elegance to the wine, driven by cool climate acid structure. Great balance, with a long refreshing finish.
Plaudits
Review of 2021: Medium weighted, silky in texture (with a little grip), very perfumed, loaded with spice and defined by raspberry and red cherry fruits. A very appealing shiraz. It feels quite cool yet layers in dark, woody spices, shows some crushed rock elements in scents and tannin profile. If you like savoury, compact and succulent shiraz, this is a very good rendition. 93 Points. James Halliday.

Rob Diletti is an exceptional and experienced wine maker and Castle Rock produces some exquisite cool variety Pinot and Riesling. Their 2021 Diletti Riesling was voted the second best in the country by James Halliday.

An exceptionally well-located vineyard winery and cellar door on a 55ha property with sweeping vistas of the Porongurup Range, operated by the Diletti family. The 2-level winery, set on a natural slope, maximises gravity flow.
The rieslings have always been elegant and have handsomely repaid time in bottle; the pinot noir is the most consistent performer in the region; the shiraz is a great cool-climate example; and chardonnay has joined a thoroughly impressive quartet, elegance the common link. Rob Diletti’s excellent palate and sensitive winemaking mark Castle Rock as one of the superstars of WA.
